The three-day annual India-Bangladesh
Inter-Governmental Railway Meeting began in Dhaka this morning to discuss
various issues on railway co-operation between the two countries. Railway
Board's Additional Member
(Traffic) A.K. Maitra is leading the Indian delegation while Additional
Director General (Operations) of Bangladesh Railway Shah Zahirul Islam is
leading the Bangladesh team.
A press release of the Indian High Commission, Dhaka, says the meeting will review the entire gamut of railway co-operation, and discuss ways and means of improving connectivity and services between the two countries. Important items on the agenda include improving service on Maitree Express, the inter-nation railway service between Kolkata and Dhaka, re-opening old railway connectivity points, and construction of new points between Dhaka and Tripura. Freight train services and the feasibility of introducing a container train service between India and Bangladesh will also be discussed.
