MS Dhoni wins United Kingdom’s 2014 Asian award for outstanding achievement in sports



Indian Cricket Captain MS Dhoni has won United Kingdom’s 2014 Asian award for outstanding achievement in sports. Dhoni, currently in Bangladesh leading India into the finals of ICC World T20, was honoured on Friday night at London.

Born in Ranchi, Bihar (now in Jharkhand) to Pan Singh and Devaki Devi on July 7, 1981.
CRICKET CAREER
ĂĽ  Made in India debut against Bangaldesh in Dhaka in December 2004. Was run out for a duck
ĂĽ  Set a world record for the highest score in the second innings in ODIs when he scored 183* against Sri Lanka in October 2005. It is the highest score ever by a wicketkeeper
ĂĽ  In December 2005, was awarded a B-grade contract by the BCCI. Earlier, he was at C-grade level
ĂĽ  Made Test debut against Sri Lanka in Chennai in December 2005
ĂĽ  Became No 1 ODI batsman on 20 April, 2006, replacing Ricky Ponting. Lasted for just one week at that spot
ĂĽ  Was named ODI vice-captain on tour of England in June 2007
ĂĽ  On September 2, equalled Gilchrist's record of most dismissals in an ODI (5 catches, 1 stumping)
ĂĽ  Was named captain of the Indian team for the World T20 in September 2007
ĂĽ  Made his Test captaincy debut against South Africa in April 2008 as Anil Kumble was injured
ĂĽ  Resumed full-time Test captaincy in November 2008 in the third Test against Australia at Nagpur
ĂĽ  Under Dhoni's captaincy, India defeated Australia by 320 runs on 21st Oct'08, biggest ever win in terms of runs for India in Test.
ĂĽ  Under Dhoni's captaincy, India reached their highest Test score of 726–9 (decl) during Sri Lanka's tour of India in 2009. Their 2–0 victory in the series took them to the number 1 ranking in Test cricket for the first time in history.
ĂĽ  According to the SportsPro magazine Dhoni is 10th most valuable brand in field of sports worldwide and number 1 among all Asian superstars.
ĂĽ  Under his captaincy, India won the 2007 ICC World Twenty20, CB Series of 2007–08 , the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2008 and 2010 against Australia 2–0 and 2011 Cricket World Cup in which India beat every previous world cup winning team.
ĂĽ  Dhoni has also been the recipient of many awards including the ICC ODI Player of the Year award in 2008 and 2009 (the first Indian player to achieve this feat), the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award and the Padma Shri, India's fourth highest civilian honour in 2009.
