Sarguja in Chhattisgarh votes out plastic

Chhattisgarh’s tribal Sarguja constituency is setting an outstanding example in environment protection during campaign for Lok Sabha elections.
All political parties have unanimously resolved not to use plastic materials during electioneering. Our correspondent reports that in Sarguja Lok Sabha constituency, political parties are upholding the social cause of environment protection by not using plastic materials during campaigning.
Political parties and their candidates are using poll materials made of paper and cloths. Cutting across party-lines, everyone was unanimous in accepting a proposal made by returning officer Ritu Sen for totally avoiding plastic during campaigning. Office bearers of political parties agree that plastic causes threat to environment and they have also noticed that cattle die after consuming food packed in polythene bags.
Let’s hope ‘No Plastic’ campaign initiated from a tribal region of Chhattisgarh could inspire people in other constituencies during electioneering.
