In Uttarakhand, the Char Dham Yatra
has begun today with the
opening of the portals of Gangotri and Yamunotri holy shrines on the occasion
of Akshay Tritiya. Our Correspondent reports that for the first time,biometric
registration of pilgrims is being done in the State.Amid chanting of Vedic
hymns, the portals of Gangotri and Yamunotri holy shrines opened after festive
dolis of idols of Goddess Ganga and Yamuna reached.
All arrangements have been made for resuming the
yatra, after the unprecedented natural disaster of last year. The state
government has made all precautionary arrangements for smooth and safe
pilgrimage. BRO personnel along with dozers are deployed at landslide zones.
Besides, SDRF and ITBP Jawans are deputed in large numbers in case of any
exigency. According to the Uttarkashi district administration, roads leading to
these shrines are opened for vehicular movement. The portals of Kedarnath and
Badrinath shrine will be opened on 4th and 5th of May.
