Costlier vegetables, fruits and milk pushed up retail inflation to three-month high of 8.59 per cent in April. The retail inflation, measured on consumer price index was 8.31 per cent in March. As per the data released by the government, food inflation increased to 9.66 per cent against 9.1 per cent in March.
The government will release inflation based on wholesale price index tomorrow.
Indutrial production remained in negative territory for the second month in a row, contracting 0.5 per cent in March due to declining output in manufacturing, especially capital goods.
Output as measured by the index of industrial production remained almost flat in 2013-14 and declined 0.1 per cent compared with an expansion of 1.1 per cent in 2012-13.
