The Jammu and Kashmir Government
has increased the
retirement age of its employees from 58 to 60 years.
The decision was taken at the state Cabinet meeting,
chaired by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, in Srinagar yesterday.
In another decision, the State Government has also
enhanced the eligibility age for candidates applying for Government jobs from
37 to 40 years in case of general category and in case of reserved categories,
it will be 43 years. Our correspondent reports that the decision will benefit
over 4 lakh government employees and their families.
Ruling colation in the state has fulfilled this long
pending demand of its employees in the last leg of its tenure.
By and large the step of enhancing both retirement
and recruitment age has been hailed but the main opposition PDP has said that
the step was an attempt by the ruling collation to ward off a defeat in the
upcoming assembly polls in the state.
