The Jammu and Kashmir Government has increased the retirement age of its employees from 58 to 60 years. 
The decision was taken at the state Cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, in Srinagar yesterday. 
In another decision, the State Government has also enhanced the eligibility age for candidates applying for Government jobs from 37 to 40 years in case of general category and in case of reserved categories, it will be 43 years. Our correspondent reports that the decision will benefit over 4 lakh government employees and their families. 
Ruling colation in the state has fulfilled this long pending demand of its employees in the last leg of its tenure.
By and large the step of enhancing both retirement and recruitment age has been hailed but the main opposition PDP has said that the step was an attempt by the ruling collation to ward off a defeat in the upcoming assembly polls in the state.
