Sharapova has lifted her
second French Open trophy. In a thrilling final last night, the seventh seeded
Russian showcased a stunning performance to beat higher placed Simona Halep of
Romania, 6-4, 6-7, 6-4 to bag her fifth Grand Slam title, which took her to
joint-11th on the all-time list alongside Martina Hingis. Halep, who was
playing her maiden Grand Slam final, pushed the Russian to the limits and it
took Sharapova three hours and two minutes to win at this year's Roland Garros,
which saw the top three Women's Singles seeds, Serena Williams, Li Na and
Agnieszka Radwanska bow out in early rounds.
